FDI World Dental Federation
FDI World Dental Federation serves as the principal representative body for more than one million dentists worldwide, developing health policy and continuing education programmes, speaking as a unified voice for dentistry in international advocacy and supporting member associations in global oral health promotion activities.

FDI World Dental Federation is the global voice of the dental profession and works with its members to improve the oral health of people worldwide.

ERO – The European Regional Organization
The European Regional Organization of the FDI World Dental Federation is a non-profit association established in accordance with the FDI Constitution, registered in the Swiss Canton of Geneva. It associates member organizations of the FDI from the European Geographical Area.
The beginnings of ERO date back to 1955 when a Special Commission for European Cooperation was established as response to the request of some European member associations of the FDI. In 1964 the FDI General Assembly adopted a resolution founding the European Regional Organisation within FDI. ERO was the first regional organisation of the FDI and thus served as model for the other regional organisations.
ERO objectives
- ERO aims at promoting the concept of dentistry as an independent profession based on the principle of freedom of choice in the relationship between dentist and patient.
- ERO works under the vision and mission of FDI, developing policies, reports and resolutions in order to influence the activities of FDI.
- ERO supports its member organizations in providing the best possible oral and general health to the patients.
- ERO promotes and supports European and national health policies that respect the ethical principles and professional standards.
- ERO resolutions, expressing the views of European dentists, are valuable documents serving as background and supportive papers for national dental organizations in their contacts with local authorities.

FDI Policy Statements
One of the goals of FDI World Dental Federation is to develop and disseminate policies, standards and information related to all aspects of oral health care around the world. It does this through the publication of FDI Policy Statements; declarations that lay out the current thinking on various issues related to oral health, oral health policies and the dental profession.
FDI Policy Statements are put together through consultation, discussion and consensus amongst leading dental experts from around the world. Many statements are the result of projects carried out by the FDI Science Committee, whilst others are produced in collaboration with organizations such as the World Health Organization.

Advocacy
At the national level, FDI works with its members to unify national oral health communities under a common aim and equip them with the necessary tools and resources to put pressure on governments to prioritize oral health and address oral diseases within national health action plans. At the global level, FDI focuses on raising the profile of oral health on the global health and development agenda.
